Our Starr Instruments RTD-200 Surface Roughness Tester is designed for users with a wide range of surface testing with detailed data analysis requirements.

It is commonly used to test in a work shop or laboratory to determine the roughness of surface finishes, both raw and machined.  This is important to measure quality and manage the manufacturing process.  If a surface is too rough it can wear quickly with a higher co-efficient of friction. Conversely it can be expensive in the manufacturing process to make a surface smoother.  

A good example is the maintainence of expensive moulds used in the production of glass bottles. These need to be closely monitored to ensure a high quality, clear bottle is formed and is easily removed from the moulds after pouring. An Ra gauge can quickly determine if a mould needs to be refinished.

Designed with a protruding stylus, the RTD-200 is also suitable for curved surfaces.  The bright OLED dot matrix screen is easy to read in daylight or low light and the 'Dataview' software makes managing data simple including graphing of results.

The RTD-200 uses a diamond tipped stylus to trace the surface of the material and through current induction transmits a signal that the device uses to produce the measurements. The measurements are available in many profiles including Ra, Rz, Rq, Rp, Rv, R3z amongst others. The results are displayed on the screen, save to memory and ouput to your PC for further detailed analysis and reporting.
