More info

Tried and true, the TH-170 series is a portable hardness series of testers that are able to provide the results in applications where bench mount hardness testers can't be used.  The TH-170 is powered by AA batteries, which is much more convenient than rechargeable battery units.  TH-170 has onboard memory and the device has basic communication with your computer, using Windows HyperTerminal.

The TH-170 series uses rebound technology and the result is measured in the  LEEB Scale or HL.  This is converted to the standard scales of Rockwell C, Rockwell B, Brinell, Vickers & MpA strength depending on the material and indenter used.  The TH-170 provides accurate results and with the added versatility and portability.

They have the ability to test on various Metals including Steel, Stainless steel, Aluminium, copper and other variations.

TH-170 (Standard)

The TH-170 has a D type impact device and is used for general purpose testing of samples greater than 5mm thickness.  Using the LEEB rebound method the results can be displayed as Vickers, Brinell, Rockwell and Shore hardness values.  These values can then be used for quality control and wear and tear analysis.

TH-172 (Thin material)

Should you need to test lighter or thinner samples then you may wish to consider the TH-172.  The C-type impact device has a lighter impact force which allows if to test thinner samples and the result is measured in HLC rather than HLD.  The TH-172 can test samples from 1mm provided they are coupled.  If they are not coupled or stable and secure, the sample will retain energy or vibration from the impact of the indentor.  This can result in a lower hardness reading.  Please ensure that small or thin workpieces are coupled for an accurate result.

TH-174 (Needle Point for hard to reach Testing)

For hard to reach locations we recommend the TH-174.  It comes with a needle point indenter so that is it perfect for deep crevices, and also for testing odd surfaces such as teeth on gears, o-ring grooves or any notched/stepped parts.

Complete Kit Supply

  • All items in the Basic Kit
  • Suitcase style aluminium hard shell, padded Carry Case
  • Reference Test Block for self calibration of the Hardness Tester.

Please consider the importance of a Reference Test Block.  During general testing, it is important to have a known reference value to compare against should you receive unexpected results.  Additionally, the TH-172 and TH-174 models require a special Leeb scale conversion that we will supply for you with shipment.
